In Genesis 28:12-13, Jacob dreams of a ladder set up on the earth with angels of God ascending and descending on it, and the Lord standing above it, promising blessing to all nations through his offspring. Jesus now takes that image and replaces the ladder with himself - 'you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.'
